SUTTON FEAST

Family Fun Run 2009

            RESULTS

This year, the sixth year we have run the event, a record 67 people took part.  All children and most of the adults received a commemorative medal.  Certificates were awarded to the fastest male and female in each age group.  We are only sorry we did not have enough medals to give one to everyone – you all deserved one! We’ll have to order more next year!

Well done everyone who took part, and made it yet again such a friendly, good humoured event!  Special mention to some very young people, for whom 3.5 kilometres is a long way to walk and run, especially on such a very hot and humid morning.

Congratulations to Jody Holden, the winner for the second year (but half a minute faster than last year); to George Youngs, third last year and second this year, even though he is not yet 10; and to Matthew Loades in third place.

Generally times were noticeably faster - yet again.  Several people improved their personal times from last year, notably some of the youngsters. Gray McCarthy was over a minute faster. Arundel Hughes improved by over four minutes.  Matthew and Brendan Rose were an incredible seven minutes faster.  Elliot Reed-Hughes was extraordinarily faster than last year – but was that something to do with his granddad’s strong shoulders?  To be the fastest man in his age group for the second year running, Dil Owen had to knock a minute and a half of last year’s time. Brian Watson, winner in the over 60 category, was also over half a minute faster than last year – but he is a mere youngster – the oldest competitor this year proudly put his age at 78!  Sam Smith, who has taken part every year apart from 2008, managed to squeeze a second off his previous best time!

There were lots of other notable achievements.  Several dads managed to keep pace with their children most of the way round, only to be beaten in sprint finishes – in fact there were quite a few exciting finishes! Rebecca Holmes was the first finisher to have pushed a buggy round the course (well, the only one actually – but she still did it!)

The full results are set out below.  We did have some difficulty getting all the numbers down with some of those sprint finishes, so if you spot any mistakes, please let us know and we will put it right.

But really, as ever, it was about everyone who joined in – and the people who helped marshal and organise the event.  Thank you all!
