SUTTON PARISH PLAN - Update 17th Feb 2005
Click here to see your Parish Plan Comments
Leaflets have recently been distributed to households in the village asking for topics that residents would like to see raised in the questionnaire, which will form the background to the production of the Parish Plan. Residents' comments have now been received by the Steering Group and a questionnaire is in the process of being compiled and will shortly be distributed to every household in Sutton. Questions will cover topics which include housing, education (including adult & pre-school), transport, shopping, leisure, health, emergency services, employment and so on, and the answers to these questions will indicate whether the current provision is regarded as adequate, or whether there is likely to be a need for other provisions in the future. There is an opportunity for residents to make observations about Sutton and what might improve Sutton for the future. It is therefore important for ALL residents to take a little time to complete the questionnaire. This is YOUR chance to have a say about the future of the village. We all want the best for the place in which we live and it is up to residents to make any changes happen, if that is what they want. There has never been a collective view of what the residents need or desire and this is the purpose of the Questionnaire.
So, to make YOUR views known, PLEASE COMPLETE THE QUESTIONNAIRE!!

Previous Update
Introduction:
Last autumn, following a very well attended open public meeting convened by the Parish Council, it was decided that Sutton should produce a Parish Plan. A Steering Group of volunteers was given the responsibility of starting the ball rolling. Over the last few months the Steering Group has met on several occasions. The group prepared and submitted and application to the Countryside Agency for grant funding to enable the Parish Plan. Funding has been approved and the plan can proceed.
What are Parish Plans?
Parish Plans are part of the ‘Vital Villages’ programme administered by the Countryside Agency. It aims to help rural communities take stock of their village, identify ways of enhancing it, making sure that local people have a voice in their future and provides support to enable the village to make its own decisions and implement improvements. Every person living or working in the community will have a chance to say what they think about the social, economic and environmental issues affecting the village, together with what improvements they would like to see in the future. When completed, a Parish Plan will be a statement of how a local community sees itself developing over the next few years and it will have the potential to influence a wide range of organisations and processes which affect parishioners’ lives.
The process in Sutton:
Following the successful grant application, the next stage of the project will be extensive consultation with all residents. Sutton residents will have an opportunity to say what they want doing in their village and everyone in Sutton will be given a chance to make themselves heard. There will be detailed questionnaires delivered to all households and presentations to village groups, together with public meetings for further discussion. Questionnaires will be independently analysed and the development of the Parish Plan will begin. It is anticipated that the Sutton Parish Plan will be published in the summer of 2005.
Steering Committee:
The steering committee would like to hear from any resident who would like to assist with the Parish Plan. All that's needed is enthusiasm and one Monday evening of your time per month. Contact Ian Dewar Tel 778789 to find out how you may be able to help this vital task.
